The Mary Celeste

On this date in History, December 5, 1872, A British ship discovers the Mary Celeste of New York abandoned in the Atlantic Ocean.  The ship had been at sea for a month, was in perfect working order, with ample supplies.  There was no sign of violence or trouble, the weather was fine.  Missing was her Captain, his family, and its 14 man crew of experienced sailors.  The Fate of the crew remains unknown and is one of the greatest maritime mysteries of all time.

One theory says the alcohol aboard the ship caused a flash fire so hot it didn't leave any burn marks. Sounds a little shady to me. It was aliens. ;)
